Seoul, South Korea

Over the summer on our way home to the US we took a long layover in Seoul, South Korea and spent a day seeing some of the sights. We visited the Gyeongbokgung Palace, which was built in 1395 and was the main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty (a dynastic kingdom that lasted five centuries).

I loved how there were so many young people there in traditional South Korean Hanboks having their little selfie photo shoots with their friends. The Palace has a royal changing of the guard every hour during the afternoon, and we managed to catch the end of the changing.

Piper wasn’t that interested in South Korean history but she had fun wandering around the palace.

We stayed in a traditional Korean Hanok. It wasn’t quite as nice as last years Japanese Ryokan, but it worked for one night, and we got to make our own bibimbap in the morning!

We had a whole morning before having to go back to the airport so we decided to get some energy out by playing a South Korean variety game show that they’ve turned into a thematic experience - Running Man. It was so much fun! We had one hour to get as many points as we could by playing video games, going through mazes, jumping, screaming, etc. I am proud to say, I got the high score for our family.

Taking a 36 hour break in between flights and seeing a new city is a lot of fun! Here are a few more phone pics of Seoul.
